Showing Roots
Official Screening
May 17 2016
Had the pleasure of capturing a very moving and influential event for the official New York City screening of Showing Roots. Showing Roots’ takes place in 1977 during the premiere of the miniseries Roots. Set in a small southern town where there definitely are still ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ sides of the tracks, two young women – one white (SAG Award Winner Maggie Grace), one black (Emmy Award Winner Uzo Aduba) – forge an unlikely friendship that sparks a journey of independence. The film written by former soap opera star, Susan Batten, and directed by Michael Wilson, also stars Cicely Tyson and Elizabeth McGovern who won the Spirit of Freedom Best Narrative Film Award at the 12th Annual Bahamas International Film Festival.
